Gemstone Lights in Edmonton | Incredible New Warranty on Gemstone Lights
Hey everyone, welcome back to Natural Light Edmonton’s YouTube channel. My name is Trevor, and I’m here with Andrew, and he is the man who is in charge of installing all your gemstone lights in the Edmonton area. He’s one of their premier dealers of the magnificent product called Gemstone Lights in Edmonton.
Today we’re going to be talking about some new features and new stuff in their warranty that, if you are interested in getting permanent Christmas lights or permanent lighting for the exterior of your home, you need to talk to Andrew about that. So, let’s jump into it.
New Warranty Developments
So, Andrew, tell me what are some of the new developments that are happening with Gemstone Lights?
Just in the last couple of months, Gemstone decided to significantly up their warranty coverage. They went from a 5-year warranty to a 10-year warranty on the entirety of the products—call it bumper-to-bumper warranty. All right, and then a limited lifetime—25 year roughly—on just the bulb. So, it really sets them apart, sets the product apart from the competition.
That’s huge. So what was their warranty before this?
Before, they used to have a one-year labor warranty, two years on all the main products, and then 5 years on the lights.
Now what about the labor warranty now? Is labor included with that?
Labor is the same, but generally labor is pretty minimal when it comes to any bulb replacement or anything like that. So that is—that’s huge actually, because we were talking just briefly before, and other companies don’t have the same type of warranty, right? Especially if you buy something online. Let’s say you bought your lights from Amazon or you got them from Best Buy, not going to be the same type of lights and not the same quality, and you are definitely not getting that warranty to it, right?
For sure.
Comprehensive Coverage
So, with Gemstone, that includes the lights, the tracks, the controller—what else?
So, the 10-year includes everything: the controller, the power box, tracks, like bumper-to-bumper, everything that’s involved in the install is covered through Gemstone for 10 years. And then on top of that, the actual light bulbs are lifetime—the life expectancy of the bulb is covered. So 25 years is a long time, 23-25 years, 50,000 hours. I mean, they break it down obviously, but so I think what that really gives for a lot of people—we know the tendency that people have is like if the day the warranty’s up, you know, it’s like a week later, the product seems to break. Well, at this point, at least you know you’ve got your life—you know, say your money’s worth out of the product.
So I think that really sets them apart. It gives that customer assurance to know that this product isn’t just like, you know, we’re saying it’s going to last this long, we’re giving you a significantly shorter warranty, and then hopefully it lasts as long as we say. It’s—they’re showing that it’s like, “No, this product is meant to last this long, and we’re going to back it up with it.”
And it gives you, as the installer, just some confidence and assurance that you are installing a really quality product, a high-end product for sure, and you’re not going to have to worry about having a bunch of warranty calls and people mad at you, saying, “Hey my lights aren’t working, they worked for a year, now they’re not.” So that stuff is not going to happen because otherwise they couldn’t put their name and that kind of warranty behind it.
Exactly.
Quality and App Control
Another thing that you mentioned earlier was, you know, you’ve had people call and they’ve asked you, “Hey can you get your system to connect with my lights because, you know, this isn’t working right?” So tell me some of those experiences.
Over the last number of months, I’ve actually had a number of calls from people who had a different branding of light installed on their house, some of which look actually almost identical to a Gemstone Light. But from the app to the controller system, basically the functionality of the lights for a lot of the other products is not nearly as good as Gemstone. So I’ve had a number of people with other products ask me if I could then hook my control setup and the usability of the app to their lights, which unfortunately is not an option.
So you have to go with the Gemstone Lights bumper-to-bumper if you want to get the premium app and the usability and stuff. Just like anything—we’re talking about Amazon—you don’t always know what you’re going to get with a lot of products. And I think with at least with Gemstone, you have that certainty from knowing that they’re a local company based out of Calgary, and then even just again the separation of this warranty and the quality of lights—from the lights to the usability of the app, it’s a different product.
Installation and Training
And you know yourself, you’re not an electrician, you have a construction background, so you don’t have to call an electrician to get these things put in because it’s all low voltage, extra low voltage pretty much. It’s very low stuff, so you don’t have to get an electrician to come and do that for you.
The thing with Gemstone Lights that I like is they actually have to train you. They actually have to get you on board. You got to know how to install their stuff. They look at your work before you even get a chance to carry their product, right? So that’s another thing that, you know, gives me confidence as a consumer, as a user of the products, that you know it’s being installed by someone who knows what they’re doing. They’ve got some kind of, some level of certification.
Current Scheduling and Seasonal Constraints
So tell me right now, just so for the camera’s sake and people out there, we are in October, mid-October in 2024, and what’s your schedule like right now?
We were just talking about my calendar. I think I’m at like November 27th, I think is what I said, something like that. So I’ll be hitting December pretty quick. So to get in on the lights before Christmas, it’s—you got to be at least a good month, if not two months, ahead.
And it’s also difficult. We know—I mean, we live in Alberta, we know what it’s like. There’s also a little bit of a buffer I have to give because if I book myself six days a week right up to Christmas, I’d probably have a few clients that wouldn’t be too happy when I told them I wasn’t able to make it out in the minus 35 because nothing works. Nothing works, your tools don’t work, and my body pretty much won’t work in minus 35 either.
So coming up to Christmas, it doesn’t get that cold, but you can have snow events, sleet, you can have all kinds of things that happen, and it just slows you down, right?
It does. So it’s just a matter of—like right now I can fit more jobs in per week, but once it starts to get to the snowfall—supposedly we might even get some on this coming Monday—it just, I mean everyone knows, it makes it a little harder to work when you have to deal with the snow.
Pricing, Demand, and Off-Season Advantages
For sure. So keep that in mind if you’re looking to get some type of permanent Christmas lighting from Natural Light in Edmonton. It’s best to do it, you know, off-season because off-season there’s some room in the calendar, and you can sometimes get some preferential pricing at that time of year as well.
When it comes to right now, it’s almost like Uber. I don’t know if you’ve taken an Uber before, but they have surge pricing—pricing that changes as the demand goes up. So if it’s, let’s say, a big sports event or a big concert or something, they have the pricing that is higher during that period of time. If it’s dead during the middle of the week at the weird time of the day, you can get lower pricing. So it adjusts for the time.
So similar thing with lighting and this type of thing. If there’s a higher demand, pricing can be a little bit higher. So if you want to wait and you don’t need it immediately, you can probably get some preferential pricing on those off-seasons.
Recent Projects and Track Options
Do you have anything else to share about any cool jobs that you’ve done this week?
I’m trying to think. I’ve been using my lift a lot more, so I own my own lift, and that helps me get to some of the hard-to-reach spots. Some pretty cool unique houses with a lot of different architecture, sometimes that can make it a little difficult on the installs, but it’s always nice to see the final product. And just getting the opportunity to do some different tracks too. We have different styles of track. One of these days I plan to do some videos showing the different styles as well. Once maybe it slows down in that off-season, I’ll take some time to display the different options for track in different lighting, but I know it’s been really good, really enjoying it.
