Gemstone Lights App Just got a Major Upgrade
Hi there everybody. Welcome back! It’s been a while since we’ve talked, Andrew, and today we’re going to be talking about some updates and upgrades to Gemstone’s app that, they’ve got some great new features and functions as well as their customer service. So let’s get started with that.
What’s New With the Gemstone Lights App?
Yeah, so with the launch of the Hub 2 system, they have been continually trying to do new updates and modifications. One of the big ones that they mentioned right off the start was that they’d be able to eventually do music. So you could set music and your lights would go to your music. That is coming very, very soon—I think actually within the next week if I’m not mistaken.
And the other thing is they have a pre-kind of an automation, like, not just for Christmas, obviously, now being the Christmas season; it is geared around that. But they have a setting where you can actually kind of like autopilot, and Gemstone has just random Christmas patterns that are chosen for you. So you can just set that to go—set the time you want it to go—and it’ll just change different Christmas patterns. Yeah, so kind of hands-free, easy to go. Your lights will turn on and off for you as you want without having to choose different patterns, and then you’re not stuck on the same Christmas pattern. There are many Christmas patterns—many Christmas patterns. So that makes it super simple for people to use the system, and you’re not trying to, you know, come up with their own idea. Although you can come up with your own if you want. But if you’re happy just to use some of the automations that they’re using, I mean, they’ve got guys who are just sitting there—that’s their job—they’re just making new patterns and new, new ways of the lights being displayed: you know, dimming, brightening, different colors, you know, chases and, and these different things.

What else is coming up?
So, actually, on that note of guys spending time making different patterns, there’s actually also—they launched kind of another initiative where you can actually contact Gemstone customer support and talk with a guy whose specialty is actually just creating custom patterns for you—like specifically for your house. So he would walk through, yeah, just how you could create the best, coolest patterns that you particularly want for your house. For people who might be a little, not as savvy—techy—you can walk through that and create some pretty sweet patterns. So I think that’s a pretty awesome, customer support that you don’t get too often nowadays.
No, that’s really good. So if you need someone to help you with, you know, creating one that’s specific just for you, Gemstone is providing that support now. I wouldn’t say for everybody to just call them because they’ve got the one guy. Yeah, you will get an answering machine if he’s busy, but he—you will—they will call you back. So, it is a wonderful thing: their whole customer support system, being able to contact someone, actually have someone on the phone. I always tell people—I just literally talked to someone half an hour ago—that when you call them, you get one automation and it’s just asking you if you’re a dealer or a customer. After that, you’re getting someone on the phone. Worst-case scenario, if all their lines are busy, just leave a message and they’ll call you right back. So there you have it.
Yeah, yeah, very awesome. It’s the best customer service and support I’ve ever had as an installer—huge benefit, huge benefit. Now, you mentioned that they’re also looking at creating some type of thing to music—so where your patterns go to music as well. What’s going on with that?
Custom Lighting Patterns Just for You
Yeah, so I think that it hasn’t quite launched yet—but the idea is, as far as I’ve heard of it—I’ll have to obviously practice it myself once it’s actually out—is that you can actually just set to any music, and the lights the way it was described is when it’s close enough to it—but when the system is close enough to the music, it’ll actually just respond to the music. I don’t know if it actually integrates with your, YouTube Music or Apple Music, or if it’s more based on the actual sound near the system. I’m actually really looking forward to seeing how that works cuz I think that’d be pretty sweet if you could actually have your music outside playing and your lights start responding—obviously, if you want them to—to that music. Would be pretty sweet. I think you’d impress a few of your friends.
Pretty cool, yeah. Know, so a lot more features and functions are coming to the app, and that’s very, very cool.
Not Just For Christmas
Yeah, right now it’s still the December season—right before Christmas—and you’ve been working non-stop.
Yes, getting things rolling for customers, because, you know, now is the season.
Yeah, for sure. For people out there who are looking to maybe get Gemstone Lights, why—why should they get Gemstone Lights? I guess the other side of it is, when is the best time for them to get Gemstone Lights? There’s never a bad time, but when it comes to availability and even pricing, the best time is—ideally—is summer. Because obviously that is the time of year when people least think about Christmas lights, and it’s the easiest for us to install them. I would say there’s a best time, it is then. Right now it is a crazy busy season, and yeah, now we’re already looking into January. I think the most important thing to think about is, the best time to consider it is now—even if it’s booked for the future—because otherwise what ends up happening is you don’t think about it until November next year and then you miss out on it again until the year after. So they really are an all-season thing, right? They’re not just a Christmas light. So, you know, whether you literally got it the day after Christmas—which we won’t be working the day after Christmas—but you have it from then for, yeah, I mean, they have a 25-year lightbulb warranty. So a long time. And so, yeah, I would just say don’t miss out on booking it because otherwise you just forget and then you miss out again and, yeah, we all know how that goes.
